Academic Space Definitions

Please use the following definitions when requesting to add or change academic spaces on campus via the Academic Space workflow. Please note that these definitions are intended to be general. Specific information for each classroom (e.g., fixed/moveable seating, room ownership, etc.) will be captured as room features or in user-defined fields.

Art Studio: Space used primarily for studio art classes.

Auditorium: A large space with seating for 70 or more students. Usually has fixed seating.

Classroom: Versatile space used for meetings (including instruction) of up to 69 participants. Usually has movable seating.

Computer Lab: Space used for computer-based instruction.

Conference Room: A smaller space with seating for not more than 25, configured for discussion with attendees facing one another. Often includes a central table.

Laboratory: Space used for laboratory-based instruction.

Multi-Purpose Room: Versatile, open space that can be configured multiple ways for various types of events/activities.

Music Practice Room: Small spaces designed for 1-5 people used for music rehearsal.

Office: Space rarely used for teaching purposes.
