Spring 2021 Modes of Instruction
In Person
- Has a meeting pattern and an assigned classroom.
- Synchronous delivery of course material for both in-person and remote students.
- Available to remote-only students via Zoom or other technology platform.
- Requires in-person attendance for non-remote students, except where the student is ill, quarantined, or has an approved accommodation.
Hybrid
- Has a meeting pattern and an assigned classroom.
- Includes both in-person and online components.
- May involve both synchronous and asynchronous delivery of course material.
- Supports a range of course designs to be determined by the faculty member; for example:
- In-person lectures for a portion of enrolled students on a rotating basis, with the remaining portion(s) joining via Zoom or other technology platform
- Flipped classroom with recorded lectures provided to all students, with synchronous discussion groups in person during class periods
Online-Asynchronous
- No meeting pattern or assigned classroom.
- Course is taught entirely online; has no in-person component.
- All material is delivered asynchronously; a student can participate fully regardless of time zone or location.
Online-Synchronous
- Has a meeting pattern but no assigned classroom.
- Can involve a combination of synchronous and asynchronous components.
- Course is taught entirely online; has no in-person component.
No Remote Students
- Has a meeting pattern and an assigned classroom.
- Synchronous, in-person, or hybrid delivery of course material.
- Not available to remote-only students.
- Requires in-person attendance, except where the student is ill, quarantined, or has an approved accommodation.
