International Examinations

The Office of the University Registrar assists in the awarding of advanced credit for international examinations by facilitating the credit evaluation process. Credit may be awarded for the British G.C.E. “A” level examinations, the Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), the Cambridge Pre-U diploma, and similar tests, such as the French baccalauréat, the German abitur, and the Swiss maturité.

Advanced-Level Examinations

G.C.E. Advanced-Level examination grades accepted for advanced credit by the various departments at Vanderbilt are listed below. Credits are awarded for examinations taken at the Advanced-Level only.

Note: The Vanderbilt course equivalent and amount of credit that may be awarded is subject to change.

*MATH 1011, PHYS 2051, PHYS 2052, PHYS 2053, and PHYS 2054 cannot be credited toward a degree in the School of Engineering and will not be applied to School of Engineering student records.

Pre-U Examinations

Pre-U examination grades accepted for advanced credit by the various departments at Vanderbilt are listed below.

Other International Examinations

Students should submit syllabi and other supporting documentation for review to the External Education team.

Application Process

In order for credit to be awarded, official examination results in the native language and an English translation need to be stamped as official and sent in sealed, stamped envelopes from the issuing institution to:

The Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) body allows authorized university personnel to download official examination results through CIE’s secure results center. Students whose examinations were conducted by the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) body, please email the center number, candidate number and series (e.g., June 2015).

Students who have taken exams in other areas may submit inquiries to the External Education team.
